Ingredients

  • 174 grams mars bars (milky way in USA) roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 90 grams butter
  • 100 grams rice krispies or your choice of cereal
  • 200 grams milk chocolate

Instructions

  • Line a 20cm square baking tin with baking paper or cling film.
  • Add the mars bars, butter and syrup to a saucepan and melt over a medium to low heat. Stir frequently until melted and smooth.
174 grams mars bars (milky way in USA), 2 tbsp golden syrup, 90 grams butter
  • Add the rice krispies to the melted mix and stir well to combine - make sure all the cereal is completely coated.
    100 grams rice krispies
  • Pour into the prepared tin and use a spoon or spatula to press it into the tin so the mix is compacted with a nice smooth top. Pop in the fridge.
  • Melt the chocolate either by the double-boiler method or in the microwave (see notes for more details). When just melted, pour over the rice krispies base and smooth it out with a spatula or the back of a spoon, making sure it reaches each corner.
    200 grams milk chocolate
  • Chill in the fridge until set - at least 2 hours but ideally overnight. Let it come to room temperature before slicing into 16 squares (this will make it easier to cut and also avoid cracking the chocolate top).

Notes

Double boiler method: Place a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of gently simmering water, making sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Add your chocolate and stir until melted. The indirect heat prevents it from burning and helps it melt smoothly.
Melting Chocolate in the Microwave: Place chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 20–30 second bursts, stirring between each one. Stop when it’s almost melted and let the residual heat finish the job. This prevents overheating and keeps the chocolate smooth and shiny.
Golden Syrup can be substituted for light corn syrup, honey or agave syrup.
